Cafe Prima Pasta Puts a Spin on Miami Spice

Most of our city's restaurants may be participating in Miami Spice, but that doesn't mean that those left out of the promo can't partake in some prixe fixe menu fun! Case in point: Cafe Prima Pasta

Last month, this legendary Italian restaurant debuted it's own Spice spin-off menu, offering a special three-course meal for $39 through September 30th.

Judging on how full the place is on any given day, I figured it would be worth a try. After all, a restaurant that has been able to stay around for two decades, feeding locals and celebrities like Lenny Kravits and Dwayne Wade alike, must be doing something right!

Despite its enormous size, Prima Pasta somehow keeps a comfortable and cozy atmosphere. The restaurant's inviting red decor and dim lights make it the perfect place for a romantic date.

Our Italian feast began with a perfect combination of a light and a hearty appetizer: the Carpaccio Di Manzo, thin slices of filet mignon drizzled with lemon, olive oil and parmesan cheese, and the Eggplant Rollatini, sliced eggplant rolled with ricotta, artisanal cheeses and marinara sauce.

Filet Mignon Carpaccio - loved the combination of meat, lemon, olive oil and parmesan!
Eggplant Rollatini - a cheesier and heavier option to start the meal, but definitely worth every calorie

For the main course we opted for the Veal Pizzaiola, tender veal scallopine with peppers, onions, mushrooms, olives and fresh tomato in a white wine sauce with seasonal vegetables, and the Lobster Ravioli, homemade pasta stuffed with lobster meat in a creamy saffron sauce. Portions were abundant, perfect for sharing, and the food reminded me a little bit of my mom's cooking. Delicious and homemade!

Veal Pizzaiola - eating your veggies never tasted this good
Sweet endings included a choice of Tiramisu, delicate ladyfingers layered between mascarpone cheese or Tartufo Blanco, homemade vanilla Italian ice cream. We opted for the tiramisu, which hit the spot and satisfied our sweet tooth.

From the romantic decor and cozy ambiance, to the friendly service and the homemade dishes, we found Prima Pasta to be a perfect neighborhood spot for a date on a Saturday night. Highly recommended, especially now since they have this great promotion going on!
