When it comes to eating out, there are few things I enjoy more than discovering a new hidden gem. That sense of pride that comes with finding a special place and being the first to introduce it to friends is one of the things I like the most about being a foodie. Just recently I had that experience at a Downtown churrascaria called Steak Brasil, and have been raving about it ever since!
The place has a lot of things going on, so lets get to the good stuff, shall we?
Their meat is damn good. And it's cheap!
Picanha. Skirt steak. Chorizo. Lamb. Just a few types of meat that you can sink your teeth in. All juicy, tasty and of great quality. The best part? You can eat to your heart’s content for only $25! And no, that is not a typo. The friendly waiters will come by offering the precious meat in long metal sticks until you switch the little red sign on your table to red. Want some more? Switch it back to green to open the meat flood gates, sit back and enjoy!
But there’s not only meat…
A salad bar is also included in the deal, as well as all the pao de queijo (cheese bread), yuca and french fries you can eat. And then there’s the grilled provolone, which is brought to your table bubbling hot on a metal plate. My recommendation? Take a piece of picanha and spread a big chunk of melted cheese on it. Ohhhh. My mouth waters just thinking about it.
The dessert station is something to pay attention to here
And no, that is not included in the buffet, but at this point, who cares? You’ll be so full that you’ll barely have space for one dessert. And that is the papaya cream. This traditional Brazilian dish is made from blended ice cream and papaya. It is served with cassis liqueur, and despite sounding deceptively simple, rest assured: it will rock your world. The perfect combo of creamy and refreshing, this frozen treat will make a fine punctuation to your night.
One last piece of advice: don't make any plans immediately after eating here. You'll be so stuffed that the only viable activity will be going straight to bed. Or maybe a long walk around Bayside to speed up your digestion. The choice is yours!
Picanha, my favorite cut of meat from Brazil
This is how you'll communicate with your waiter: green means more, red means stop. Easy enough!
Packed house at Steak Brasil, waiting to enjoy some delicious Picanha!
This lamb is so tender it just melts in your mouth
A classic: provolone cheese made on the grill and served piping hot
The perfect side dish for churrasco: yuca fries, pao de queijo, and french fries
A nice break from the meat: the salad bar
My favorite dessert in the making: the papaya cream with cassis liqueur
This flan is to die for! Just like my mom's!
Mixed brigadeiros, a nice and sweet way to finish the night
