Hip Pops Review: About Love and Ice Cream

Let’s face it: falling in love is fattening. Think about it. When you are single, you go out of your way to stay fit, healthy, and look good. However, this all changes once love comes around and you start picking up all of your sweetheart’s bad food habits. This is especially dangerous for the women out there who were good about watching what they ate when single, but now get tempted by their boyfriend’s perpetual snacking on “man-sized” portions of fast food, pizza, cookies and, the worst diet offender: ICE CREAM.

I am usually pretty good at resisting these temptations, but when it comes to ice cream, all self control goes out the window.

Fortunately, falling in love does not necessarily have to mean falling out of shape, and I have recently found proof that it is possible to have your dessert, and enjoy it guilt-free too!

Enter HipPops, the food truck with the city's best gelato-on-a-stick, that is also a way less guilt-inducing dessert than traditional American ice cream. I had the chance to try them during a recent Wynwood Art Walk and have been obsessed with them ever since!

Some of you may be scratching your heads, looking at the screen in disbelief, but it's true. While regular American ice cream is made with a heavy cream base, HipPops' gelato is made with skim milk and just a little bit of cream, so it’s lighter, healthier, yet it feels nice and creamy.  They have all types of flavors, from classics like Vanilla Bean and Oreo (made with enormous cookie chunks), as well as more adventurous ones like Mexican Chocolate Chipotle and Raspberry Lychee sorbet.

Once you go through the difficult task of choosing the flavor of your pop,  it is dipped into your choice of three different types of Belgian chocolate, and then encrusted into anything from crushed pretzels, Oreo crumbs, roasted pistachios and more.  You can get as creative as you want, in fact, go crazy, you really can’t go wrong with these guys!

How do they get their pops to be so tasty? Simple.  They use all fresh, natural ingredients, a lot of fruit, Belgian chocolates, and no additives, which is why the flavors are so great. Also, their pops are made in a local micro-creamery by talented “popologists” (yes, that word actually exists!), and in very small batches every day.

The lovely HipPops truck can be found all around South Florida, so if you want to try them out, take a look at their website to find out their daily locations. Or better yet, you can even hire them to cater for your next event!

Whether you are single or in a relationship, I have no doubt that, like me, you will fall in love with their amazing pops. Take my word for it. They will not disappoint!

XOXO,
Miami Mich
